hmmm okay, so I've had this issue for aw hile now, and to me it sounds like a virus....you tell me. For about 10-20 seconds at a time, my computer will go into insane system chop mode heh...if im playing tribes the screen will just skip and im useless for that period of time, I can't even jet....the lag will pass and im perfectly fine. This happened before with my old P4 chip, was a 2.4...and eventually ended up frying the chip.....durin the lag spike, my chip would go from 1-2% to 100% usage of the cpu.....Since it happened and I got a new chip, all was fine....I then installed windows home (POS) recently and it started again....anyone have any clue as to what it is? I've pretty much exhausted all hardware possibilities by troubleshootin, just swaping out everything, so it's either my mobo, or a virus....or something ive overlooked....anyone have any clues?

hardware specs are as follows:
CPU - P4 3.06 socket 478
Abit bh7 mobo
512 mushkin pc2100
Radeon 9800pro

hellllp me! i wanna kill my computer!

If you think you have a virus, run a Anti-virus program.

E.g. Bitdefender http://www.bitdefender.com. Either in the free version if you plan to use it longer (which makes sense) or if you just want to make one scan in the "evaluation" version that works for 1 month. It also finds Spyware and Trojans.

Yes, Adaware SE is really good, that will make sure that you get some of those issues out. Adware and Malware (adaware takes out both) can cause that issue taking up lots of system resources. If you run that and don't find anything, I know another antivirus website that's free to scan if you don't have a program, tell me if have one or not and I'll go find that address again.

if a virus and ad-ware check didn't produce any results, then you've got to take another look at your hardware. 512mb of ddr 266 is not a lot and not very fast... you're prolly writing to the swap file like mad. i would reduce all textures to low. yes yes, i know you got the radeon, but it appears as though you've got a bottleneck.
