I posted at the EA forums asking this and did some reading, but haven't found a good enough answer yet. I was hoping that you all could shed some light on this for me.

My comp...
FX-55
1 gig of ram
2 X Gforce 6800 Ultra OC in SLI mode
XP SP2

BF:V 2.21

At random times my BF:V will crash to my desktop and I'll get a microsoft error messgae saying that bfvietnam.exe has caused some sorta error. See pics...

I get the same error about every 20 minutes or so during online play. I'm going to test out offline tomorrow and will post back.

I read that it might be some crash to desktop exploit? Does anybody know if there is any truth behind this?

I also changed the 0 to a 1 in the video file in my profile (foreget the exact name of the file) to allow for refresh rates greater than 60.

All my drivers are current. I just formated the other day and only installed the basics to test the game and see if it still happens. I lowered my dirext x sound accleration one notch like was mentioned in the EA online help site.

This is pretty much driving me crazy. I get into a good game and start to have fun.... then blammmm back to the desktop and submitting the error report to microsoft.

Advice, help?

I have no clue about your problem. But I know if someone does they will be posting here soon. I will ask them on vent too next time I am on.
You should join us on vent sometime.....I never see you on xfire anymore though so I dont know when your playing....

if it happens after 20 min with regularity, i would say it's a heat related problem.

otherwise, sounds like a memory issue.... you overclocking any?

20 minutes was just a guesstimate and not exact. The temp problem was something I've already looked into and it's not a factor. Nothing is reaching over 120 F. No OC'ing here. I did buy the 6800 Ultra from BFG that was shipped OC'd as advertised on their site.
I also replaced my comps memory with the stuff I had in mine and still no change.

When I get off of work I will look into it more and post as I go.

not so sure i have the utmost faith in your temp readings.... nor should you.

120F is 48c ... and most 6800's are lucky to idle that low. most idle 50c and have a load of ~ 70c. the bfg's do not come with the greatest heatsinks, so they're doing much the same as pretty much all the rest of the 6800's... add to that different drivers read the temperatures differently.

i can pretty much say with certainty that unless your case temps are in the high teens/low 20's, you're not getting 48c at full load. you may want to check that out?

I took your advice Fumi and double checked the heat on the video cards. I put a probe on both cards while playing BFV and bamm that was it. The time it took for the crash to happen and by the time I rejoined the game, it had enough time to cool down and then build up heat again. It would go from 198 - 175 F that fast. I put a slightly bigger fan on the case side panel and reversed it (pulling the air out) and it works just fine now. Three hours playing last night non-stop and not a single problem!

yeah, 2 6800 ultra's are going to generate a lot of heat... and heat rises... so that top card is prolly nice and toasty.

if you're able to, go to newegg and get a couple nv5 silencers... they're awesome... although i would triple check if you have space for them... you prolly do if your cards already have a heatsink/fan that use up a pci slot (so to speak).

I should have plenty of room for the nv5 silencers. Each PCI-E card takes up 2 slots. I'll have to strip the old stuff off and cut out the back of the shinny silver slot holder thingy in the back. LOL Don't know what it's called... To be able to allow the air to flow outside the back of the case. Nothing the dremel and a pencil can't handle!
